MAINTENANCE (Retinol/Retin-A) The last topic in the maintenance portion of the series is all about Retinol and Retin-A. It's easy to get confused between which is which and I'm going to explain in detail what each one is and how they are used!
RETIN-A or Retinoid is a very strong topical form of Vitamin A. It has been studied since the 1960s on its effectiveness for acne and anti-aging. It is considered by most dermatologists to be a miracle ingredient! š It promotes collagen production more than any other ingredient, stimulates the production of new blood vessels in the skin (improving tone) and it unclogs pores. It is my number one ingredient I recommend for people struggling with acne or to prevent wrinkles. Most of the time you have to have a prescription from your doctor or dermatologist for it, but you can also find it online. RETINOL is a less potent form of Vitamin A that can be found at the drugstore or online. This form is for antiaging and not necessarily for acne. I would start with this and work my way up to a stronger percentage of a Retinoid.
Both ingredients can be extremely irritating if used incorrectly and can even burn your skin! It is a very powerful ingredient and should be used carefully starting off with only using it once per week and building your way up.
If you have acne, clogged pores, or want to diminish fine lines and wrinkles with Retinol or Retin-A, I am available for online consulations. I can help you find the right routine to use and give you advice and tips to help you get started correctly! Send me a private message if you are interested or have questions! <3
