How often should I wash my face? Once a day? Three times a day?
People often assume that if you have dry skin you only should wash once and if you have oily skin you should wash as much as possible... FALSE!
You should not do either of those things! I'll explain why..
First of all, everyone's skin is different. Some people have crazy oily skin and some people have super dry flaky skin. So how do you know how to wash your face according to skin type?
The answer is simple. You do the same thing for both types.
Might sound crazy? Well keep reading!
ALL skin types should wash their face twice a day. No more, no less. The reason why is that at night before you go to sleep, your skin needs to have all the makeup and bacteria removed from it before you lay down. Otherwise it is very unhealthy for both skin types. Leaving makeup on during sleep has even been said to age the skin 7 times faster! I believe it! Your skin needs to be clean and nourished with good products consistently if you want healthy glowing skin.
The second time you would wash is in the morning when you wake up. It's better to use a light cleanser in the mornings (such as a gel or cream) just to get the excess oil or bacteria off the skin that could have accumulated while sleeping.
And that is all the cleansing necessary for your skin! Now let me explain why you shouldn't wash your face more or less.
With oily skin for the example first, it is a myth that you should wash your face more than twice a day to keep oil at bay. Twice a day is plenty if you are using the right cleanser that is helping with your skins needs. I will talk about picking cleansers in my course that will be available sometime.
By washing your face 3 times or more, you are overstripping the skin and causing even more oil production because your skin is trying to combat the dryness by making even more sebum!
So twice a day is plenty for oily skin types.
For dry skin, even though your skin doesn't produce much oil, you still need to keep your skin cleansed from bacteria and nourished. Find a good gentle cleanser that is moisturizing to use morning and evening to help your skin look bright and clear.
